Canada 150 Celebrations!

July 1st is right around the corner. Now is the perfect time to start planning for the celebration. Edmonton has so many activities planned throughout the city, so if you’re looking for some fun in the sun with your family and friends, check out some of these great activities throughout YEG!

Edmonton Canada Day Fireworks

Date: Saturday July 1, 2017
Time: 11:00 p.m.
Cost: Free!

Enjoy the outstanding annual fireworks display over Edmonton’s river valley parks and the North Saskatchewan River. Some of Edmonton’s best viewing locations are:

  • Alberta Legislature Grounds
  • Victoria Park (River Valley Road)
  • Ezio Faraone Park
  • Government House Park
  • Edmonton Ballpark – those attending the Edmonton Prospects on July 1st are welcome to remain in their seats at the Edmonton Ballpark to watch the fireworks after the game.

Canada Day Birthday Celebration at the Edmonton Valley Zoo

Date: Saturday July 1, 2017
Time: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost: General Admission

Celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, as well as the Zoo and Lucy’s birthday! At the big birthday bash, take part in a scavenger hunt, learn to paint like Lucy, enjoy live music and learn all about our Canadian animal friends. Don’t forget to sing Happy Birthday to Lucy and enjoy a mini cupcake!

Muttart

Date: Saturday July 1, 2017
Time: 10am-2pm
Cost: General Admission

 A party 150 years in the making! Come down to the Muttart Conservatory to celebrate Canada’s Birthday in style! There will music, entertainment, treats, and wonders to behold when you enter the doors. It will also be your first chance to take part in the special 150th anniversary Feature Pyramid, a show filled with patriotic love for our country!

Chinatown Night Market

Date: Saturday July 1, 2017
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Where: 96 street and 102 Avenue
Cost: Free!

Celebrate Canada Day at the Chinatown Night Market with traditional entertainment, art and gift sales, and incredible food trucks!

Art Gallery of Alberta

Date: Saturday July 1, 2017 & Sunday July 2, 2017
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Where: AGA (Churchill Square)
Cost: Free!

Celebrate Canada Day at your AGA with free Gallery admission thanks to the support of Dentons. Bring the whole family for art activities and a chance to view the exciting exhibitions.

Freewill Shakespeare Festival

Date: June 20 – July 16, 2017
Mondays-Fridays: 8:00 p.m.
Saturday & Sundays: 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m.
Where: Heritage Amphitheatre in Hawrelak Park
Cost: $30 for adults
$20 for students & seniors (+60)
Children under 10 are free

This year the Freewill Shakespeare Festival is proud to present The Merry Wives of Windsor and The Merchant of Venice, in the Heritage Amphitheatre in Hawrelak Park. Check out the website for show times for Canada Day!

CMS Summer Band

Sand on Whyte

Date: Friday June 30 – Sunday July 9, 2017
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Where: CP Rail land in the northeast corner of Whyte Ave and Gateway Blvd.
Cost: By donation

Sand carving is a performance art, much like ice carving. Be amazed by the work of Canadian sand carving artists as they create sand carving magic that tells Canada’s 150 year story and vote for your favourite.
