50th Anniversary Time Capsule

April 22 - July 31

Twenty-five years ago, the Students’ Association of MacEwan University put together a time capsule to commemorate the opening of the City Centre Campus with instructions it be opened on MacEwan’s 50th anniversary. SAMU invited all students and staff to contribute, and they were more than happy to do so. The time capsule was filled with brochures, handbooks, jerseys, VHS tapes, floppy discs and much more.

On November 30, Dr. Trimbee and our SAMU President, Myles Dykes unveiled two new exhibits beside the original time capsule in Building 6. These exhibits along with several others highlight contents of the time capsule and can be viewed in display cases across campus, including one in the SAMU building on the second floor next to the pedway.

  • Building 6, 1st floor – near Starbucks – 2 displays
  • Building 7, 2nd floor – near Room 7-146
  • SAMU Building, 2nd floor
  • Building 8, 2nd floor – near Robbins/Allard Hall pedway

A new time capsule is being gifted once again to MacEwan from SAMU, with instructions that it be opened on MacEwan’s and SAMU’s 100th anniversary in 2071. The new time capsule will be dedicated on April 30th at MacEwan’s 50th-anniversary celebration and sealed in the Spring with all of the student and staff contributions. Items for the new time capsule have been revealed and can be viewed in display cases across campus.
