SAMU Building History

A brief history of the SAMU building with conversations starting more than 10 years ago:

2010      
Funds begin to be saved for construction of the building.

June 2015   
Stantec hired as SAMU building architect.

July 2015   
MacEwan University Board of Governors endorses SAMU’s business case and approved the building location.

Oct. 2015     
SAMU building referendum held with 77% of students who voted, voted in favour.

April 2017  
Media release event with SAMU, Stantec and MacEwan University. We unveiled official building renderings and had a ground-breaking ceremony.

July 2018  
Concrete is poured for the future home of the moss wall.

Aug. 2018 
The building’s steel frame has started to be installed.

Oct. 2018   
Stairs and elevator shafts are been completed.

Dec. 2018
Leasing opportunities/vendor applications closed.

Jan. – Sept. 2019   
Exterior structure is built.

Jan. 2020   
SAMU moves its administrative office and all programming and services to the building.
