Wellness Week – Feb. 4-7, MacEwan University
Hosted by SAMU, Wellness Week is a series of events focused on sexual, drug and personal health education. With exhibitors such as the Price Centre of Edmonton and the Canadian Nursing Club, the event will feature a variety of activities including an alternative healing session and meditation. The event takes place across campus so all you have to do is keep your eyes open and you’ll find something to do!
Canadian Birkebeiner Ski Festival – Feb. 8-10, Beaver Hills Biosphere
The three-day festival, which takes place around the Beaver Hills Biosphere just south of Elk Island National Park, celebrates the Norwegian tale of how the Birkebeins escorted the heir to the Norwegian throne to safety through mountains and forests. Their challenges are represented by cross-country skiing in modern day and therefore, skiing is the focal point of the festival. Featuring seven races including two 55 km races a four or eight km fun ski and even a 50 m dash, even if you aren’t an experienced cross-country skier there’s still a race for everyone.
Silver Skate Festival – Feb. 8-18, Hawrelak Park
The Silver Skate Festival finds its inspiration from Dutch winter traditions, it is a combination of winter sport and recreation (specifically skating), arts and culture. The festival, which takes place around the lake at Hawrelak park, features events for all ages including sharing Birkie Sunday with the Birkebeiner Ski festival, sharing space with the Ice Castles, a series of skate races, fire sculptures and so much more. If you’re looking for an excuse to get outside this winter, then there is no better festival to get out and enjoy.
Cirque Du Soleil Crystal – Feb. 13-17, Rogers Place
This totally new performance piece from Cirque Du Soleil puts their world-famous acrobatics on-ice for the first time. Crystal brings world class performers to the ice of Rogers Place to amaze spectators. There are eight events over the five days the show runs, and all shows are suitable for all ages.
