Edmonton Stingers Inaugural Season, Various dates, Edmonton Expo Centre

It’s an exciting time to be a basketball fan in Edmonton. 2019 marks the inaugural season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) which brings Edmonton’s first professional basketball team since 2012, the Stingers. CEBL features six teams and a four-month, 20 game regular season which starts in May. The Edmonton Stingers, who call the Expo Centre home, play their inaugural game at home on May 10 against the Niagara River Lions.

Royal Bison Fair May 10-12, 8462 Gateway Blvd.

The Royal Bison Fair is one of Edmonton’s largest art, craft and design festival’s Edmonton offers up. This festival runs twice a year and features local and cross-Canada vendors. Royal Bison features everything from artwork, bath products, apparel, jewelry and more. Tickets for this event are only $3 and children get in free. There is something for everyone at this craft festival, so if you’re in the market for some local goods, art or anything else, this is a show you won’t want to miss.

Dark Matters May 16, TELUS World of Science

The fan favourite TELUS World of Science event makes a triumphant comeback. This 18+ event is presented by Bioware and EA Games. GAME ON! features an in-depth exploration of the tech behind some of your favourite games. But that’s not all, this adult only event will feature DJ Thomas Culture, give visitors a chance to visit all of the exhibits and loads of adult science experiments.

U-Fest, May 24-25, Borden Park

If Heritage Days doesn’t give you enough Ukrainian spirit, then boy oh boy do we have a festival for you. U-Fest, which is Edmonton’s Ukrainian Festival, is a celebration of Ukrainian food, culture and arts. Have you ever wanted to make a pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg), or learn to make perogies? U-Fest has a handful of workshops on how to create many of the favourite Ukrainian staples. This festival takes place at Borden Park and will have something for all ages all weekend long.  

Rainmaker Rodeo and Exhibition, May 25-27, St. Albert Kinsmen Fairgrounds

Rodeo season kicks off with the St. Albert Kinsmen Rainmaker. This event features a midway, concert series, BMX track, dog performance, outdoor marketplace and more. It’s essentially K-Days light with RV parking. There are family friendly events and activities all weekend long and this year’s concert series touts acts Aaron Pritchett and Jess Moskalue as Saturday night headliners, Friday’s lineup has yet to be announced at the time of publishing. The festivities kick off May 25 at 3:30 p.m.
