Join us for a workshop where you will learn how to plant a sunflower seed, as well as Nehiyawak (Cree) sunflower teachings and the practical benefits of planting sunflowers!
You Will Learn: Sunflower Planting and Teachings
You will plant a sunflower seed in a simple white pot, which which you may collage with cut outs from magazines that contain words, phrases or images that represent your mindset for the future. You may also participate in discussion about the sunflower’s meaning in different cultures, including the Nehiyawak teachings of it’s significance.
Indigenous peoples have cultivated sunflowers for thousands of years, both as a food source and for their spiritual significance. The sunflower is said to represent sustenance and generosity, resilience and adaptability, protection and guidance, and connection to the land. You are encouraged to attend the workshop to learn more about each of these aspects and how you can apply them in your own life.
Sunflowers have many uses beyond spirituality, including soil remediation, support for pollinators like bees and butterflies, providing shade and protection for other crops, use in food and medicine, and as a symbol of environmental activism.
Using simple white pots provides a blank slate for you to shape on your own, just as we shape our lives. You may customize your pot with a cut out collage of words, phrases, and images from magazines that represent your aspirations.
