Opting Out of the student Benefit Plans

Students who wish to opt out of the health and dental insurance must have comparable coverage (from your parents, spouse, job, government or band) and must submit an online opt out form before the applicable deadline. Deadlines are firm, therefore if you miss the deadline, you will be required to pay the associated fees for the entire year.

Once your opt out application is approved, the fees will be removed from your student account. If you already paid, you will be reimbursed within 4-6 weeks. The refund will be processed by the MacEwan Fee office. All inquiries regarding refunds can be directed to acctrec@macewan.caterm/year. Active opt outs will remain on your student account for 5 years and you will not need to resubmit the online application every/year unless you choose to re-enroll.

Opt-out Deadlines:

Fall Term: September 29, 2025

Winter Term: January 30, 2026 (New Students Only)
