Elections & referenda

Each October, students elect 14 Councillors to represent the student body. In March, five students are elected to the Executive Committee. Referenda questions may also appear during either election, giving students the opportunity to vote on important issues affecting SAMU and campus life.

What are elections and referenda?

Elections and referenda are ways for students to have a direct voice in how SAMU is run. Elections are when students vote to choose their representatives, such as Councillors and Executive Committee members. Referenda’s are votes on specific questions or issues that impact SAMU and the student experience, allowing students to directly influence important decisions.
