Student
leadership

Student leaders at SAMU help shape the direction of the Association through governance, advocacy, and strategic planning. Elected Councillors and Executive Committee members work together to set priorities, policies, and decisions that support current and future students.

STUDENTs’ Council

Students’ Council approves bylaws and policies that guide SAMU’s activities and ensure expectations are met. It represents MacEwan students, addressing concerns and improving the student experience. Council meetings are moderated by a neutral Chair appointed annually.

Executive committee

The Executive Committee consists of five elected student leaders responsible for advocating on behalf of SAMU members, reporting advocacy efforts to Students’ Council, and providing oversight and direction to support the Association’s operations and General Manager.

committee

SAMU and MacEwan both offer committee opportunities for students to get involved in governance and decision-making. SAMU committees focus on areas like budgeting, strategy, and student representation, while MacEwan committees support academic matters, research ethics, and community engagement.

SAMU in the news

SAMU in the News keeps students informed with the latest updates, official statements, and advocacy efforts from the Association. Learn more about how the Executive Committee represents students and the work SAMU is doing to support and improve the student experience.

Governing Documents

SAMU’s bylaws, policies, procedures, and directives guide how the Association operates, governs, and makes decisions. These documents outline responsibilities, expectations, and processes that support transparent, consistent, and accountable operations across SAMU.

Elections

Each October, students elect 14 Councillors to represent the student body. In March, five students are elected to the Executive Committee. Referendum questions may also appear during either election, giving students the opportunity to vote on important issues affecting SAMU and campus life.

SAMU Surveys

SAMU surveys give students the chance to share feedback that helps improve academics, campus life, and student services at MacEwan. Your responses guide our advocacy and create positive change across the university.
