OUR SERVICES

Policy and Procedure Explanation

The Advisory helps you understand the policies and procedures that are relevant to your situation by explaining them in clear easy to understand language. Through explaining the policies and procedures, you are made aware of your options to address your situation.

Writing Support

Before you send or submit an email or form to a MacEwan Faculty or Staff, an advisor can provide suggested edits, which includes spelling, grammar, tone, and organization.

 

 

Meeting Prep and Support

You can receive support for meetings and hearings through prep assistance, which includes helping organize your thoughts, ideas, and relevant information, as well as outlining what to expect. An advisor is also able to attend as a silent support.

Q: Who can access the Advocacy Centre?

A: Student Policy Advisory is a complimentary service available to all MacEwan students who pay SAMU membership fees.

Q: How do I contact the Advocacy Centre?

A: You can connect with the Student Policy Advisory through this this intake form. You will receive a response to your inquiry within 3 business days, which will include policy and procedure information relevant to your situation and the link to book a meeting with an advisor.

Q: Can you advocate or talk on my behalf?

A: No, at the Student Policy Advisory, we don’t directly talk on your behalf. Rather, we help you confidently navigate university policies by providing information and supporting your ability to self-advocate.

Q: Will MacEwan know if I am getting support through the advocacy centre?

A: No. The Student Policy Advisory is a confidential service, which means that the information discussed between students and advisors will not be shared with anyone outside of the Advisory team. You cannot be reprimanded for seeking support.

Q: Do you have any impact on the decision?

A: The Student Policy Advisory is not a decision maker nor do we have any influence over decisions made by MacEwan or other parties; however, we can help prepare students to navigate their situation.

Q: Is it too late to get support if I am already in a process?

A: The Student Policy Advisory is more than happy to help you no matter where you are in a given process. Please contact our team ASAP by using this intake form to see how we may support you.

Q: I’m having issues with my student loans. Can you help me?

A: It is out of scope for the Student Policy advisory to provide guidance on loans and funding, admissions, or academic advising. For support, please contact a financial aid advisor, the Office of the Registrar, or an academic advisor, respectively.
