PURPOSE

The Marketing Coordinator’s focus is on coordinating the planning and execution of Marketing initiated projects, brand campaigns and initiatives, research-related projects, and communications initiatives. Working with the Marketing Services Manager and Marketing & Communications Director, the Marketing Coordinator also assists with tasks to support the ongoing operation of the Marketing Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing Projects

  • Coordinate planning and execution of marketing-related projects, including:
    • Annual Report
    • New Student Welcome Package
    • SAMU Stock photo database (generate and maintain with Photographer)
    • Promotional item orders and inventory management
    • SAMU promotions and contests (coordinate all aspects of contests)
    • Marketing Department overview presentation (for internal use)

Brand Campaigns & Initiatives

  • Coordinate SAMU brand campaigns and initiatives:
    • Annual Brand Engagement Campaign for students
    • Building branding (implementing the SAMU brand within the Building)
    • New Student Welcome Package
    • Student Brand Engagement initiatives identified in the strategic marketing plan (activating the SAMU brand within the Building)
    • Assist in developing and maintaining SAMU Brand Video


Research & Data

  • Coordinate research-related projects in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & communications and external consultants:
    • Annual Student Survey (implementation, analysis and distribution of results)
    • Target market research (student journey mapping, segmentation and persona development)
    • Brand development research (brand perception and value proposition)
    • Ensure student data list is updated and uploaded to appropriate online tools
    • Project wrap-up reporting

Communications

  • Coordinate the development of external communications materials as needed:
    • News releases, speaking points, key messages
    • Corporate communications (Annual Report and internal communications)
    • Media and Advertising packages (in conjunction with the Administration & Retail Manager)

Other

  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Diploma or Degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field
  • 1-3 years experience preferred (Other combinations of education and experience considered)
  • Experience in working with marketing projects and campaigns from start to finish

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • General knowledge/experience in marketing, branding and market research
  • Familiarity with marketing technology/platforms considered an asset (Basecamp, Survey Monkey, Email platforms, CRM)
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to form relationships and collaborate with others
  • A desire to stay current on marketing trends
  • Time management skills to juggle multiple priorities at the same time
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and a variety of projects simultaneously

WORKING CONSIDERATIONS

  • Sitting, walking, climbing stairs
  • Occasional manual tasks, lifting up to 20 pounds


Terms of Employment

This full-time position features full health and dental benefits (after a three-month period) and a great work environment. Regular work hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Some travel along with weekend and evening work may be required however, work hours are 35 hours/week.

Purpose:

The Executive Coordinator plays a hands-on role in providing operational support to all SAMU’s Executive Committee members on a day-to-day basis. This position reports to the General Manager and operates in accordance with the vision, mission and values of SAMU.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Schedule and coordinate meetings, conferences and retreats for the Executive Committee and subcommittees. This includes:

  • Contacting invited parties and coordinating meeting availability.
  • Formulating and circulating agendas, minutes, and associated meeting materials.
  • Providing minute-taking and administrative support at meetings.
  • Maintaining a standard system for filing, organizing and archiving records.
  • Coordinating travel, accommodation and venue arrangements.

Serve as liaison for incoming and outgoing external SAMU requests to/from members of the Executive Committee, such as invitations and sponsorship requests.

Assist in the implementation and maintenance of Executive Committee, day-to-day electronic records-keeping system and schedule management.

Liaise with General Manager and other Executive Team assistance staff on Executive Committee issues as required.

Assist Executive Team assistance staff with the onboarding and offboarding of Executive Committee and Student at Large Board Rep.

Aid on Executive Committee projects as time allows, specifically for Vice-President Academic/ Vice-President Student Life/ Vice-President Operations and Finance and, at times, President/ Vice-President External.

Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Other:

o   Support the student campaign process as needed

  • Duties may change as the position evolves.

Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant education and/or experience.
  • One year of experience working with undergraduate students or in a post-secondary institutional setting; specific knowledge of student associations’ executive activities is an asset.
  • Experience with board governance is an asset.
  • Experience in event planning/organization.
  • Experience in research and data analysis.
  • General knowledge of university student populations.
  • Education/experience in conflict resolution and/or project management would be an asset.

Working Considerations:

Light effort, partial sedentary office work.

SAMU Programs aim to provide students with activities and opportunities to learn about wellbeing, as well as raising awareness about various resources available to students, both in and outside the MacEwan community.

Our mission is to provide ongoing and one-off programming with the direct aim to improve the long-term wellbeing of MacEwan students and their community.

SAMU Programs consist of the Student Refugee Program (SRP), StressLess, Sustainability, SAMU Cares, and Artworks. SAMU Programs also runs a variety of other programming and interactive campaigns, blog posts, hands out wellness bags, and organizes activities that fall under two umbrellas of focus – Wellbeing and Community.

Student Refugee Program

Each term, $2.50 of your student fees goes towards supporting SAMU’s Student Refugee Program (SRP). Working with World University Service of Canada (WUSC), SRP funds the tuition and housing of a refugee student for four years. With the help of a local committee group made up of students and staff, SAMU ensures all the sponsored student’s needs are met throughout their time at MacEwan.
