Shina Adeshina

Double Major in Computer Science and Economics,

I am a student pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Economics, and I am passionate about building connections and creating opportunities for students. Currently, I serve as VP External for the Black Students’ Alliance, where I focus on partnerships and advocacy. Previously, I served as VP Design, helping to organize inclusive and community-driven events that brought students together.

I am running for Students’ Council to ensure that all student voices — local and international — are heard, represented, and acted upon. My goals are to strengthen communication between the council and students, advocate for affordable and accessible student services, and create meaningful events that enrich campus life. With experience in leadership, event planning, and community engagement, I will bring creativity, collaboration, and accountability to the council. Together, we can make campus life more inclusive, supportive, and engaging for every student.

4th Year | Psychology Student Minoring in French

Hello! I am a final-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) Psychology student minoring in French and the 2024-2025 SAMU Student of the Year. I am an appointed Students’ Councillor currently serving as the President of both the MacEwan Language Club (MLC) and the Human Rights, Diversity, and Equity (HuRDE) Club. I am also serving my third term on the Council on Student Affairs (CoSA) and my second term on the General Faculties Council (GFC). Last year, I, along with my fellow GFC student representatives, successfully advocated to keep Fall Reading Break. My extensive experience in leadership roles over the years has helped me realize that many students, due to emotional and financial challenges, lack the capacity to take advantage of the resources that SAMU and MacEwan provide. If elected, I aim to promote student engagement by advocating for students’ overall well-being and a vibrant campus, ensuring that students’ concerns are valued.

Tolu Dare

3rd Year | Computer Science

Hi! I’m Tolu, a 3rd-year Computer Science girly and proud international student. I’m re-running for Students’ Council because I want to keep advocating for your needs — just like I did last year when I helped keep the reading break! I’m passionate about making campus life better and making sure every student’s voice is heard.

My commitment shows through my work with the Black Students’ Alliance of MacEwan (BSA). I started as VP Admin and stepped up as Co-President because I wanted to give even more to the community. I also volunteer with the Promo Squad, where I share the latest campus events and help create that sense of belonging, we all want.

If you care about a vibrant campus experience and having your voice represented, I Dare you to Vote Tolu!

Also, if you see me in the hallways, rolling my suitcase, come say hi!

Christian Galera

4th Year | Bachelor of Arts

I am a 4th-year student majoring in Political Science with a minor in Sociology. I have spent 3 years of my university life dedicated to student groups such as the MacEwan United Nations Club and the MacEwan Law Club, serving as an executive for both. Currently a seated councillor and the Audit Committee Chair, I am determined to hold SAMU and its Executives to a high degree of accountability and transparency, through regular oversight and scrutiny by reviewing expenditures and budget variances. I believe that MacEwan students must strive for a community open to students’ voices and putting them into action through meaningful initiatives and projects. I am dedicated to joining the Council again because of its specific role in shaping initiatives that improve student life. With my leadership experience and commitment to student success, I am confident that I can represent and advocate for my fellow students effectively.

Paralegal Studies

As a Councillor in my first year, I witnessed how vital student advocacy is in shaping our university experience. I worked to protect the fall reading break, address affordability by reducing unnecessary fees–including deferred exam fees–and contribute to MacEwan’s advocacy at both the provincial and federal levels. I am re-running to ensure good governance, amplify student voices, and strengthen cultural representation, student welfare, and affordability at MacEwan.
As part of the Governance and Operations Committees, I work closely to better the training for new councillors, improve policies, and ensure accountability within SAMU. These experiences fueled my passion for student advocacy, affordability, cultural representation, and mental health support.
My goal is to keep pushing for accessible education, good governance, stronger support systems, and a vibrant, inclusive campus community. With your support, I’ll continue to be a dedicated voice at the table–fighting for decisions that put students first.

Are you feeling unheard? Well, I’m here to say it because someone has to say what we’re all thinking. You should vote for me because I am passionate about the student voice and recognize the change it makes at MacEwan. I believe in free speech, and I’m passionate about students having the freedom to exercise it. I want to be your voice!

I’d describe myself as compassionate, driven, and reliable. I take pride in creating a fun and friendly environment for those around me. I place a high value on inclusivity, respect, and integrity, and I aim to surround myself with individuals of similar merit. I thrive in leadership roles; I’m involved in the executive teams of the MacEwan Commerce Club and the MacEwan Economics Club, and would love to step up in a student council position.

Vincent Trinh

2nd Year | Bachelor of Science

Hello, I’m Vincent Trinh, in my second year pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree. While a science student may not seem like the best candidate, I have served on Students Council in the previous term and believe I have the skills and experience to be the best councillor possible. I’ve always been passionate about leadership and helping students. With so many issues on the rise like mental health, it’s important for students to properly gain proper support and I’m willing to put myself out there to advocate for student needs. While you read this I encourage you to check out the other great candidates running, and hope you have a great day!

Shanna Villasenor

2nd Year | Bachelor of Science in Biology, minor in Statistics

Hiii! I am Shanna Villaseñor, a second-year Bachelor of Science student majoring in Biology with a minor in Statistics. As President of the Filipino Barkada Club, I have led initiatives that celebrate culture, build community, and create inclusive spaces where students feel proud of who they are.
These experiences have shown me the importance of representation and belonging in student life, and they inspire me to run for Students’ Council. My platform is guided by three core values: Inclusivity, ensuring every student feels like they belong; Accessibility, making sure all students can access opportunities, not just those who already know the system; and Affordability Advocacy, ensuring student money is spent where it matters most. With these values, I believe that Belonging + Support + Affordability = A Better Student Experience For All.
Liam Wilson

2nd Year | Political Science

I was born and raised in Edmonton with my younger sister. My family has two dogs—a Havanese named Lucky and a Shih Tzu named Suzy—both of whom I love very much. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, cooking, reading, and spending time with friends. In Grade 12, I self-published a time-travel adventure novel titled The Malignancy. It was mentioned in the Edmonton Journal and it has a 3.91 rating on goodreads with 22 reviews.

I’m a big fan of ’70s rock and classic soul, though I enjoy some modern artists too—Olivia Dean is a favourite. During my first year at MacEwan, I developed a strong commitment to social justice and community service. When it comes to policy, I’m flexible and always eager for public input. I look forward to applying my energy towards advocating for my fellow students as a councillor.
