Changes to alberta student aid

Sep 4, 2024 | SAMU News

There have been updates to Alberta Student Aid for the 2024-2025 Academic year. Read below for details.

THE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • If you are considering dropping to part time status or withdrawing, you may lose your eligibility for future funding.
  • If you do not advance your year of study more than twice, you may lose your eligibility for future funding.
THE DETAILS:
  • Alberta Student Aid will now actively monitor students who withdraw or drop from full time studies to part time. There is an excerpt from this policy: “Any student who withdraws or drops to part time for two study periods will no longer be eligible for further funding for 18 months.
  • Students who drop to part time status within the first 30 days of the term must repay all funding issued for the current study period to be eligible for further student aid funding.
  • Alberta Student Aid will now actively monitor your year of study. A student who fails to advance by continuing in the same year of study more than twice will lose eligibility for further funding for a period of 18 months.
    • This change does not apply to students who have been seeking assistance through Access and Disability Resources and have documented permanent disability or persistent/prolonged disability.

If you are considering dropping to part time status or withdrawing, or if you may not continue to the next year of your studies, we encourage you to contact a Financial Aid Advisor about how these changes may impact you. You may reach the Office of Financial Aid with the contact information below.
