What is Students' Council?
Students’ Council is the highest governing body of the Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) and consists of 19 elected members of the student body, including 14 Councillors and 5 Executive Committee members.
SAMU runs a number of services, organizes student events like Fall Fest and Speaker Series, and lobbies on behalf of MacEwan students. The role of Students’ Council is to approve bylaws and policies that govern the activities of SAMU and ensure student expectations have been met.
What does a Students' Councillor earn?
Sitting on Students’ Council is a fantastic way to gain experience in areas related to leadership, strategic planning, professional communication and advocacy. Councillors are also in a unique position to influence SAMU’s actions by helping to set it’s governing bylaws and policies.
Councillors receive an honorarium for their time on Council and on committees. Additionally, SAMU will provide meals to Councillors on days they must attend Council meetings.
