MEET THE COUNCILLORS

Cierra Jacobs

My name Is Cierra Jacobs, I am in the Bachelor of Arts program with a double major in psychology and philosophy and a first generation, post-secondary student at MacEwan. I am running for re-election in my third consecutive term involved with Students’ Council. My most recent experience with SAMU as the VP Student Life has help me gain invaluable insights into the importance of amplifying the student voice. If re-elected, I will commit to representing students like me who take student issues seriously and want to work to see change. I am a part of the majority of students at MacEwan who identify as female and am looking forward to empowering the inclusive environment within our campus! Layal Zidan

Hello everyone 🙂

My name is Layal Zidan, and I’m a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Science, majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. I am actively involved in the Students’ Council, Audit Committee, Governance Committee, General Faculty Committee, Council on Student Affairs, Math & Stats Learning Center, and the Centre for Autism Services Alberta. Last year, I was honored to receive the Council of the Year and Campus Champion awards.

I am eager to continue working alongside councillors and fellow students to ensure that our SAMU fees are used effectively, enhance the campus environment, and bridge the gap between students and SAMU. Representing you on the Students’ Council is a tremendous honor, and I am fully committed to understanding and advocating for the best interests of MacEwan students. If you see me around, please feel free to say hello!

Vincent Trinh

Bio: Hello Students of MacEwan, I’m Vincent Trinh, one of the candidates running for Students’ Council. Like some of you, I am new to MacEwan, having my first year at the institution. Older year students may know that adjusting to university is challenging. Knowing the feeling of a first year, I want to take the opportunity to step forward and learn new things. I want to join SAMU’s Student Council to represent the first year experience, but also use the learning possibility to help all students; first years and older. I have done Student Council in high school, and I feel passionate about learning, leading, and helping others where I can. I may not have the same experience as others, but I will do my best to aid all those who I can and advocate for all students attending MacEwan. Allow me, Vincent Trinh to be your future councillor.

TOLU DARE

Hi! I’m Tolu, a second year computer science girlie who just loves finding creative ways to solve problems just like my suitcase instead of a backpack. I’m all for the nitty gritty details that impact student life here at MacEwan from your mental health down to the water fountains. This among others is why I am running for the position of Student Councillor! Vote for me and I’ll be there to serve you, and your needs.

You’ll most likely catch me rolling in the hallways with my suitcase and blue outfit, feel free to say hi and tell me your concerns. Or drop them here.

Aidan Fisher

Hello! My name is Aidan Fisher, and I am a 4th-year Computer Science student with a minor in Finance. I am thrilled to run for the SAMU Student Council. I care deeply about student well-being and want to focus on two main areas: Financial Advocacy and Student Engagement. I know how important financial transparency is and I’ll work to keep you in the know, by joining the finance committee and make sure your money is going to good causes. On the engagement side, I aim to advocate for policies that enhance campus life by supporting more Student Groups, creating platforms for your voices, and building a strong sense of community.

Moselle Namoc

I, Moselle Namoc, am a first-year student running to improve students’ mental health and welfare accessibility, ensuring awareness and enhancing cultural representation at MacEwan University. My goal is to make every student’s university experience enjoyable and one unforgettable memory. I believe I am a strong candidate who will strive to improve students’ university experience through more fun and engaging events. Keeping our mental health in check by meditation and unwinding pods during the term and fighting AGAINST the cancellation of fall reading break. Additionally, enhancing cultural understanding and capturing cultural diversity by introducing a “fall fest-like” event – the “culture-fest” event! Promoting the importance of understanding diverse, multicultural traditions and art. Proving to a stranger the diverse and fun community at MacEwan. I encourage students to go out of their comfort zones to be the best and most confident they can be. Keep it Short & Sweet–Vote for Me!

NATHAN POON

Hello! My name is Nathan Poon, and I am excited to be re-running for SAMU’s Students’ Council. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of serving our student body, and I remain fully committed to the values that have guided my work: fiscal accountability, affordability, and accessibility.

As President of MacEwan University’s United Nations Club, one of the largest post-secondary Model UN programs in Western Canada, and as President of the MacEwan Law Club, I have overseen numerous student initiatives designed to enrich the campus experience for everyone.

As a returning member of SAMU’s Students’ Council, I have consistently advocated for responsible management of our resources, ensuring that your student fees are used both effectively and transparently. I believe that every decision we make must prioritize the well-being of students, especially in these times when affordability matters more than ever.

Thank you!

Cornelius Glasgow

My name is Cornelius Glasgow. I’m in my third year of arts at MacEwan. My experiences at MacEwan give me a unique perspective that can benefit my peers. After playing on the basketball team for two years, I’ve learned firsthand the importance of balance—between academics, athletics, and personal growth. I want to use what I’ve gained to help students achieve the most from their time here. I understand our challenges and know how valuable it is to have someone who truly listens and advocates for you. I’m friendly and approachable and would love to hear what you have to say. My goal is to be your voice that will act on your behalf.
