  2.  → In Memory: Lucille Joy Shaw

At SAMU, we were sad to learn of the recent passing of Lucille Joy Shaw on October 11, 2023.

Starting with SAMU in 1977, Joy went on to work as SAMU’s Executive Director for 22 years. During this time, she was a champion of student interests by providing opportunities to have student voices heard and ensure the college met their needs.

As part of her efforts for students, Joy was instrumental in the growth of the Griffins Athletics Program, serving as the Chair of six national championships hosted at the college during her tenure. It was her work as Chair that set the standards for colleges hosting national championships that are still recognized today.

For her tremendous effort on behalf of students, Joy was honoured as the first inductee into the Builder’s Category on the Griffin’s Wall of Distinction in April 2000.

SAMU will always remember Joy for her leadership, support of students, and her involvement at the college.
