There’s no better way to start the year than centering the conversation on student needs!

SAMU recently welcomed the Honourable Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services, as well as Chelsae Petrovic, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Workforce Engagement, to campus. This visit provided an important opportunity to discuss the intersection of post-secondary education and healthcare, while highlighting how on-campus supports contribute to student success and long-term well-being.

During the discussion with Minister LaGrange and Petrovic, SAMU outlined the importance of accessible, on-campus health and wellness resources for students. The conversation also emphasized the need for high-quality, relevant work-integrated learning opportunities, especially for students pursuing careers in healthcare and related fields.

In addition to on-campus services and resources, SAMU extended the conversation to discuss the barriers students face when entering the job market. Through advocacy and connections to career development supports, SAMU’s goal is to reduce these barriers to ensure students are better positioned in transitioning from post-secondary education into the workforce.

SAMU extends sincere thanks to Minister LaGrange and Petrovic for accepting the invitation to participate in this conversation on-campus and for taking the time to listen to student concerns. We look forward to continuing these important conversations while working collaboratively to support students and their academic success.
