The SAMU Cares program is a bursary funded by the Students’ Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) for students who are in financial need. The bursaries are to help students and their families with financial assistance in the Fall and Winter terms. The program has grown to assist 60+ families each year and is funded by the creative fundraising efforts of the SAMU community.
We do everything we can to allocate a bursary to every student who applies. Amount of bursary depends on the number of applications and dollars available.
Where does the money come from?
Annual SAMU Events
All proceeds are donated to SAMU Cares.
All proceeds from this silent auction are donated to the SAMU Cares program.
Each semester, unwanted (eligible) student textbooks are donated to SAMU and sold through the buy-back program. Proceeds go to the SAMU Cares program.
Coin Jar Collections
Dispersed around MacEwan’s campus year-round.
How to get help
SAMU will do everything it can to lend assistance to anybody who applies for the SAMU Cares program.
Applicants must be referred by a Student Life Advisor/Counsellor, Financial Aid Office, or Services to Students with Disabilities. Application forms can be found at any of the listed offices below including the SAMU Office or online.
Fall semester deadline is November 16, 2018 (fall term) and the Winter semester deadline is March 16, 2019 (winter term). Applications are due by 4 p.m. on the deadline date.
