Student leaders at SAMU help shape the direction of the Association through governance, advocacy, and strategic planning. Elected Councillors and Executive Committee members work together to set priorities, policies, and decisions that support current and future students.

At SAMU, Students’ Council, governance, elections and committees are an integral part of student life. Governance consists of the Students’ Council, which plays a key role in ensuring expectations are met approving bylaws, and govern activities at SAMU

Students’ council

Students’ Council approves bylaws and policies that guide SAMU’s activities and represent MacEwan students. Council addresses student concerns, supports the student experience, and ensures SAMU operates according to its governing rules.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of five elected student leaders who advocate for SAMU members, report to Students’ Council, and provide oversight and direction to support the Association’s operations and General Manager.

Elections

Each October, students elect 14 Councillors to represent the student body. In March, five students are elected to the Executive Committee. Students may also vote on referendum questions affecting SAMU and campus life.

SAMU and MacEwan offer committee opportunities for students to participate in governance and decision-making. Committees cover areas such as budgeting, strategy, student representation, academics, research ethics, and community engagement.

SAMU Surveys

SAMU surveys give students an opportunity to share feedback about academics, campus life, and student services at MacEwan. Your responses help guide SAMU’s advocacy, inform decision-making, and create positive change across the university.
