In addition to being a ten day flurry of fair grounds and deep fried food, the Calgary Stampede is one of Canada’s largest political networking events of the year, and your SAMU representatives were right there alongside decisionmakers, advocating for your needs.
Through engaging with Stampede events, Fansi was able to speak with leaders at all levels of government, making sure the student voice was heard and recognized. Some highlight interactions include:
- Hon. Myles McDougall, Alberta’s Advanced Education Minister
- Premier Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta
- MLA Naheed Nenshi, leader of the official opposition
- Prime Minister Mark Carney
- Numerous provincial MLAs and Ministers
Your SAMU team made it a point of emphasis to establish genuine connections with key Alberta government figures, including the Premier of Alberta and the Leader of the Opposition, MLA Naheed Nenshi. These engagements and genuine connections have laid the foundation for future conversations and partnerships with representatives in government, ultimately strengthening SAMU’s efforts in influencing student-centered policy.
By showing up and speaking out, SAMU stays involved in Alberta government conversations involving future decisions, considerations and policies. Our participation sends a strong message of commitment and support towards student needs and well-being, and strengthens SAMU’s positioning for real impact in the halls of power.
