SAMU Commitees
SAMU Committees enable you to make your voice heard on SAMU’s processes including SAMU’s budget, and allocation of funds, responses to student needs and strategic direction.
Students appointed to SAMU committees will serve a one-year term beginning November 1st and ending October 31st of the following year.

AUDIT COMMITTEE
The Audit Committee assists Students’ Council in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities.

FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Finance Committee assists Students’ Council in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities through budgetary deliberations, reviewing SAMU fees and monitoring the financial well-being of the organization.

GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE
The Governance Committee ensures the relevance and consistency of SAMU Bylaws and Policy and assists in governance process development.

GOVERNANCE INVESTIGATIONS AND REINSTATEMENT COMMITTEE
The Governance Investigations and Reinstatement Committee (GIRC) investigates the actions of an elected representative alleged to have breached a bylaw, policy, or procedure, or an appeal of election decisions or results and is responsible for interviewing and vetting candidates for reinstatement to Students’ Council.

The Strategy and Engagement Committee (SEC) strives to maximize student engagement with Students’ Council, provides leadership development opportunities to members of Students’ Council and acts as a consultation body for strategic priorities.

Macewan Commitees
MacEwan Committees address a wide range of areas, including academic committees that allow student voice in faculty discussions and processes, participation in Student Affairs, and engagement in various research ethics and community-focused groups on campus.
Students appointed to MacEwan committees will serve during the academic year beginning as early as September 1st and ending between June 30th to August 31st of the following year.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The committees meet on differing schedules, ranging from only a few meetings per year to once each month. Each committee offers experience in decision-making, leadership, networking, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
GENERAL fACULTIES cOUNCIL STUDENT representatives
General Faculties Council (GFC) is the highest academic authority at MacEwan, dealing with topics such as academic standards, programming, integrity, and policies, as well as scholarship, research, and creative activities at MacEwan University.
As a GFC Student Representative you sit on both GFC and the Council on Student Affairs (CoSA). CoSA provides a forum to address issues related to student affairs, the quality of student experience, and the determinants of student success at MacEwan University. It focuses on issues which affect students equivalently across the university and provides a high level of discussion, consultation, and advice.
What does the GFC Student Representative do?
The main responsibilities of this role are to:
- Attend all General Faculties Council Meetings and preparation meetings scheduled.
- Attend the Council on Student Affairs Meetings and preparation meetings scheduled.
- Provide feedback regarding issues important to students
- Provide post-meeting insights to the Vice President Academic for their report to Council
GFC Student Representatives are provided an honorarium of $60 per meeting attended of the General Faculties Council, $30 per GFC preparation meeting attended, And $15 per CoSA meeting attended as per SAMU procedures at the end of their term.
