SAMU Committees

GET ON BOARD – SAMU COMMITTEES

Applications for 2026-2027 are open

SAMU committees are a way for you to influence how we spend money, how we make our decisions (our processes), and how we plan for growth (strategy and engagement).

Students appointed to SAMU committees will serve a one year term beginning November 1 and ending October 31 the following year. Official committee appointment terms may vary based on time of appointment.

AUDIT COMMITTEE

The Audit Committee assists Students’ Council in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Finance Committee assists Students’ Council in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities through budgetary deliberations, reviewing SAMU fees and monitoring the financial well-being of the organization.

The commitee is currently scheduled to meet from 9AM – 12PM on February 16, 17, 18, and 19.

GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE

The Governance Committee ensures the relevance and consistency of SAMU Bylaws and Policy and assists in governance process development.

GOVERNANCE INVESTIGATIONS AND REINSTATEMENT COMMITTEE

The Governance Investigations and Reinstatement Committee (GIRC) investigates the actions of an elected representative alleged to have breached a bylaw, policy, or procedure, or an appeal of election decisions or results and is responsible for interviewing and vetting candidates for reinstatement to Students’ Council.

STRATEGY AND ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Strategy and Engagement Committee (SEC) strives to maximize student engagement with Students’ Council, provides leadership development opportunities to members of Students’ Council and acts as a consultation body for strategic priorities.

WHAT DO SAMU COMMITTEE MEMBERS DO?

Attend all committee meeting
Prepare for committee meetings by reviewing agenda materials in advance*
Prepare relevant insights and other notes prior to meeting attendance
Provide an additional student perspective on each committee

* Support from SAMU can be provided if requested.

HONOURARIUM – GET PAID!

Student Members of these Committees are provided an honourarium for each meeting they attend. Honourariums are provided to students at the end of their term, as per SAMU procedures.
