ORANGE HEART PINS
The Orange Heart is a symbol of remembrance and solidarity with Indigenous communities. Orange Shirt Day, also observed on September 30, was inspired by the story of Phyllis (Jack) Webstad, a Northern Secwépemc woman from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation. She was among over 150,000 Indigenous children forced to attend residential schools from the 1870s to the 1990s.

Orange Heart pin beading is organized in collaboration with social work students, MacEwan Library, Sport and Wellness, and MacEwan Residence. In addition to the SAMU Building, there are beading tables available on the 2nd floor of Building 5, Griffin’s Landing, 2nd floor Building 7, Sport and Wellness, 2nd floor Robbins Health Learning Centre, and Allard Hall Atrium.
