Executive Committee

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Executive Committee oversees the SAMU General Manager. In addition, each member of the Executive Committee is responsible for advising both Students’ Council and other Executive Committee members on their portfolios. It may sound complicated, but this system ensures that the needs of MacEwan students are met in a diplomatic manner and that everyone is held accountable to MacEwan students.

PRESIDENT - Nathan poon

Hello, I’m Nathan Poon as your President of the Students’ Association of MacEwan University for the 2025/26 Academic Year. I’m deeply engaged in enriching student life, I’ve held several leadership roles on campus, including two terms as President of the award-winning MacEwan University United Nations Club, President of the MacEwan University Law Club, and three terms as a Students’ Councilor with the Students’ Association. As President of the Students’ Association and as a principal representative for student concerns, I’m committed to amplifying the student voice in key institutional decisions. VP GOVERNANCE AND FINANCE - andrei santiago

Hello everyone! My name is Andrei Santiago, and I am honored to be serving as your Vice President Governance & Finance for the 2025/2026 academic year. I am currently a first-year Bachelor of Commerce student, majoring in Accounting and minoring in Finance. I am thrilled to be able to represent the student voice and to advocate for your needs, concerns, and overall student experience.

As a fellow student, I understand the significant challenges many of us face in accessing and affording post-secondary education, most especially during these financially tough times. I am committed to advocating to the best of my abilities to help ease the burden of the growing affordability crisis.

Through focused internal advocacy, I will work to ensure that student interests remain at the forefront of decision-making, with a particular emphasis on financial transparency, accessibility, and support. Outside of academics and student leadership, I am trying to rekindle some of my old hobbies such as playing the piano, locking back into the gym, and growing my music vinyl collection! I look forward to serving you and making a more supportive and empowering impact on your student experience!

VP External - Wilfrid Youbi Fansi

Hi, I’m Wilfrid Youbi Fansi, your Vice President External, and I’m here to ensure your voice is heard. As a Marketing Major with a Legal Studies Minor, I’ve always been fascinated with the intricacies of public policy and how it impacts regular people in their lives. Knowledge really is power, and I aim to empower everyone around me by holding our representatives to account.

I am out and about making sure that all those we elect are holding their promises to students and do not neglect such an important sector like post-secondary.

In my free time, you’ll find me picking up a new creative hobby, climbing outdoors or doing some (very) amateur photography. Feel free to say hi if you see me in the halls!

VP STUDENT LIFE - Alem Tesfay

My name is Alem, and I am thrilled to serve as the Vice President of Student Life. As I enter my final year majoring in Management, with a double minor in Marketing and Political Science, I reflect on how deeply my student experience has been shaped by campus involvement.

Throughout my time at MacEwan, I have been an Ambassador, a volunteer for Pets Assisting with Student Success (PAWSS), and the Co-founder of the MacEwan Chess Fellowship. You may have seen me working at the Makerspace, advocating for students as a Student Councilor, or attending events hosted by groups like the Uno Club, Law Club, and Commerce Club. In my previous role as Student Councilor, I championed student engagement, affordability, mental health, and inclusivity.

While working at the Makerspace, I also represented student workers as a board member of the MacEwan Staff Union, where I served two full terms as a member representative. I firmly believe that university is more than just a certificate—it’s about unlocking your potential through student groups, volunteering, and networking opportunities. As Vice President of Student Life, I will work hard to enhance engagement opportunities, strengthen student services, and ensure every student feels empowered to make the most of their university experience.

VP Academic - Chioma Uzor

Hello! My name is Chioma Uzor, I am a fifth-year Psychology student with a minor in Political Science. I am pleased to be able to serve you as Vice President Academic at SAMU for the 2025/2026 academic year!

Upon developing an interest for an inclusive undergraduate environment and mental health supports, I am passionate about the foundations of learning and ensuring that you are getting the most out of your learning experience.

I believe that students deserve transparency within their grading criteria, an affordable approach to the supports that are offered to them, and an accessible avenue to student-first procedures that can be used in various areas in student representation. I love to spend a lot of time on campus– but in my free time I love to listen to music, jazz in particular. I also enjoy cooking and baking, exploring new art mediums, and tasking myself to new hairstyles!

Right now, I’m learning to create resin jewelry, and I look forward to teaching myself the alto saxophone. You deserve an accessible and clear student support system–I am determined to continue to advocate for this on behalf of MacEwan students. You deserve to take advantage of your university experience to your fullest potential to reach the utmost success of your degree!
